Summer Clothes

Woke up one morning at 4am- couldn't sleep. Decided that now would be the perfect time to pull down the summer clothes. After half an hour or so, they were on the bed, Wow, it looked like I had a hell of a lot more summer clothes than I thought. They would probably fill a suitcase- I might not be able to bring them all. That was for another day-it was time to get some sleep before getting up for work.....

June 17th

Before Christmas, I sent in abstract which was accepted as a poster at the EAHIL conference. I was delighted to hear I had received funding from the Health Science Libraries Group to go to EAHIL which will be held in Istanbul in Turkey in July. On my application form to HSLG, I mentioned that I would do a blog on my EAHIL experience. This of course would mean having to actually do a blog on a continuous basis which up to now I have hadn't been successful in doing.  I went about considering the design for this poster. My friend's husband Richard Meade works in Graphic Design and offered to do it. Needless to say, I was absolutely thrilled when I saw the result. Richard did a fantastic job on designing the poster. It was exactly what I was looking for. I submitted the poster in it's new format by end of April deadline. The next step was Early Bird registration before 2nd May which if I remember rightly  fell on the bank holiday weekend and required getting to a fax machine that Saturday to ensure registration was complete -bit of panic as I assumed it wouldn't require getting into the car and heading into town to find a fax machine.  Anyway, whew ! As I am going to Istanbul, it seemed like a shame not to just take more holidays while I was out there. I decided to take another weeks holidays and booked my return flights for the following Saturday. My friend expressed an interest in coming to Istanbul for a week too - can't wait ! She will of course wait until the conference is over:) It was shortly after that I was informed that my poster was picked for the best posters session so I would in fact have to speak at a session on the last day of the conference- slightly nervous thinking about that- will go to the back of my mind -for now!

My intention instead moved to holiday plans for AFTER the conference. My friend and I were after all on the hunt for accomodation and in this regard the internet can be a friend or foe ! Our internet connection at home is bizarre. It can work fine for ages and be fast- then all of a sudden for no apparent reason it just looses the connection. Then, you have to problem solve for about half an hour and it might work by such time you just haven't the energy to start all over again. Grace got a great deal on a hotel very centrally located in Sultanahmet. At this point, I'm not going to mention the name of the hotel as no matter how much searching you do for accomodation, someone will always have had a bad experience there.

Now, not long to EAHIL. Must get cracking on that talk and powerpoint !!!!!
